HEC Sets September 27 for HAT Exam
HEC Sets September 27 for HAT Exam. Students planning to apply for the Higher Education Commission’s overseas scholarship program now have a firm date to work with. According to the commission, the Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT), which is a necessary condition for all those who wish to pursue MS, MPhil, or PhD degrees from abroad through HEC funds, will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
The update was provided through a corrigendum to the original advertisement for scholarships issued by HEC, dated August 9, 2026. Corrigenda like this are fairly routine when a government body needs to fix or update details after the initial announcement. In this case, HEC used it to lock in the exam date along with a couple of other important corrections that applicants should not overlook.
When Can You Get Your Roll Number Slip?
Mark this down: September 17, 2026 is when roll number slips go live. Candidates won’t receive these by post or email automatically; they’ll need to log in and download the slip themselves from the HEC Education Testing Council’s official portal, etc.hec.gov.pk.
A quick word of advice here, and it’s worth repeating because so many students lose marks (or miss the test entirely) over this: don’t wait until the last moment to grab your slip. After downloading it, make sure to read it carefully, checking your test center assignment, reporting time, and any instructions laid down by HEC for this specific examination session. Test centers may not be the same as those expected by applicants, and reporting late on the day of the exam is never excusable.
A Second, Equally Important Correction: The Right Application Portal
Here’s where the corrigendum becomes genuinely useful, beyond just the exam date. HEC has also flagged that the original advertisement referenced the wrong online application portal. This has now been corrected.
The only valid portal for submitting your overseas scholarship application is:
If you’d bookmarked or started an application on a different link mentioned in the earlier ad, it’s worth double-checking that you’re now working through this corrected portal instead β applying through the wrong system could mean your application doesn’t even get registered.
What Hasn’t Changed
HEC was clear that apart from these two updates the confirmed test date and the corrected portal link- every other detail from the original August 9 advertisement stays exactly as it was. That includes eligibility criteria, required documents, scholarship terms, and any deadlines mentioned earlier, unless HEC issues a further notice saying otherwise.
